CAO Student Stories

There’s more to university life than just studying – our students give us insights into life across our campuses and their experience of the programmes they are studying.

Jessica Suleiman

Applied Computing, Letterkenny Campus

The best thing about the course for Jessica is the different modules each semester has to offer. Applied Computing covers a lot of the different programming languages split into different modules that each have their own projects and assignments.

Matthew Culleton

Applied Biology and Biopharmaceutical Science, Galway – Dublin Road Campus

The Applied Biology and Biopharmaceutical Science course appealed to Matthew not only because he had a passion for science, but also because it offers extensive hands-on practical work and valuable work placement opportunities.

I chose ATU because it gave me the opportunity to explore all aspects of the industry while also strengthening my skills.

Niamh Doyle

Studying Science (Undenominated) at ATU’s Galway City Campus

“We’ve visited a wide range of locations, working on research vessels and speedboats, which makes the experience incredibly hands-on. It’s far more practical than any other course I considered. In first year, we used a variety of specialised labs for chemistry, physics and biology which gave us exposure to different scientific disciplines. This really allows you to explore the full range of areas you could pursue.”

Studying Corporate Law at ATU’s Donegal Letterkenny Campus

“The best thing about studying at ATU is the balance between academic and student life. The environment, support, and services ensure that you don’t feel overwhelmed by academic pressure. There’s a strong community feeling that really helps you grow personally and academically.”

Caoimhe McCormack

Studying Science (Common Entry) at ATU’s Sligo Campus

‘I came in through Common Entry Science, and I’m now studying Environmental Science with Ecology. I wanted to try all sciences first to see how I got on, and the common entry route allowed me to do that.’

Evan Brady

Studying Energy Engineering at ATU’s Galway City Campus

“I entered engineering through common entry because I wasn’t sure which type of engineering I wanted to pursue, but I knew I had an interest in the field. The lecturers I had, particularly in Energy Engineering, definitely helped to develop my interest in energy. The one-on-one interaction with lecturers has also really helped me. I learn best when I’m able to bounce ideas off others and have discussions. When lecturers take the time to support students, it makes a big difference.”

Ben Gavin

Studying Business and ICT at ATU’s Sligo Campus

“After graduation, I plan to work with Ernst & Young. I’ve already been offered a graduate position following an eight-week summer internship in Dublin. The internship was brilliant. I worked on exciting projects, and found it easy to integrate and collaborate with colleagues. The teamwork and collaboration skills we develop at ATU make it feel almost second nature when entering the working world.”
