ATU Alumni Eligible to Vote in Seanad Éireann Elections

Graduates of Atlantic Technological University (ATU) are now eligible to vote in Seanad Éireann elections under a new six-seat Higher Education constituency.

This change expands the franchise for the election of Higher Education Senators to include graduates of ATU and its legacy institutions, formerly Institutes of Technology and Regional Technical Colleges.

ATU designated institutions include Letterkenny IT, IT Sligo, St. Angela’s and Galway Mayo IT.

About the New Higher Education Constituency

The Higher Education constituency will replace the existing National University of Ireland (NUI) and University of Dublin (Trinity College Dublin) constituencies.

For the first time, degree holders from designated higher education institutions, including ATU, will have voting rights in Seanad Éireann elections.

To be eligible to register, applicants must:

  • Be an Irish citizen
  • Be aged 18 years or older
  • Hold a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from ATU (formerly Institutes of Technology and Regional Technical Colleges which this also includes)

Graduates with degrees from more than one institution may register once only, as the constituency operates on a single-vote basis.
