ATU Charity 5k in Letterkenny raises money for Cancer Care West
Over 250 people took part in the 14th annual Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Charity 5K on the Letterkenny Campus on Tuesday, 14 April, raising funds for Cancer Care West. Runners, joggers and walkers aged 13 and over took to the fast, flat circular route starting and finishing on the university grounds.
The race delivered a standout finish, with Declan Furry (Rosses AC) and Danny Mooney (Letterkenny AC) crossing the line together in an impressive joint time of 15:37. The first female home was Kelly Flynn (SML Coaching) in a time of 19.52.
This year’s chosen charity, Cancer Care West – Donegal Cancer Support Centre, provides free counselling, practical guidance and complementary therapies for individuals and families affected by cancer. Their services offer a vital lifeline to people across the North West region.
In acknowledging the support received, Patricia Doherty of Cancer Care West said:
Cancer Care West are hugely grateful for the support behind the ATU 5K sponsored by PGIM. Every step taken helps us continue providing free support to people affected by cancer in our community. We are truly thankful to everyone who took part, organised and supported the event.
ATU Sports Centre Manager Helen Kennedy highlighted the growing impact of the annual 5K, noting its role in strengthening community ties. She said that ATU, together with sponsor PGIM, was delighted to support Cancer Care West this year, and emphasised that entry fees and donations will directly sustain the charity’s essential services. She extended thanks to participants, organisers, volunteers and sponsors whose continued commitment has shaped this longstanding annual event.
Next year’s race is scheduled to take place on 6 April 2027.
ATU’s Letterkenny Sport Centre continues to welcome people of all ages throughout the year, including children who take part in its popular summer camps. Information on upcoming camps is available on ATU’s website: Children’s Activity Programme – Atlantic Technological University
