RISE@ATU is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Northern & Western Regional Programme 2021-2027.

Introducing RISE@ATU: Driving Innovation for Regional Prosperity

RISE@ATU Strategic Objective Areas

At its heart, RISE@ATU is about building a stronger, more connected research ecosystem. The programme will unify and expand ATU’s research structures, bringing together expertise across campuses to create a cohesive and collaborative environment.

Over 30 new staff have been appointed to support research services, infrastructure, researcher development, enterprise engagement, and knowledge transfer.

RISE@ATU will grow our research community through 5 new postgraduate training programmes, placing 60 PhD students in enterprise-linked research projects aligned with regional priorities. Ten postdoctoral researchers will lead collaborative initiatives with industry, helping to address real-world challenges and accelerate innovation. To support this work, ATU will introduce integrated digital systems for managing research activities, ethics, postgraduate students, and enterprise partnerships; making it easier to collaborate, track progress, and share outcomes.

RISE@ATU is designed to deliver tangible benefits for over 230 enterprises, including training, placements, mentoring, and co-created research. These partnerships will help businesses innovate, grow, and connect with ATU’s research expertise. Finally, the programme will ensure that the impact of ATU’s research is visible and valued; capturing stories, data, and insights that show how research is making a difference in people’s lives and shaping the future of our region.

RISE@ATU is a bold step forward for ATU and for the region; bringing people, ideas, and opportunities together to build a more innovative, inclusive, and prosperous future.
