ATU brings entrepreneurship & creativity to young innovators through regional summer camps
ATU Entrepreneurship Summer Camps, with the support of HEA funding, provided immersive learning experiences designed to build creativity, confidence, and entrepreneurial thinking through real-world engagement with industry, tourism and food innovation.
This summer, students took part in hands-on camps that brought learning beyond the classroom and created the opportunity for creativity, engaging with real business and industry settings.
Here are a few of the camps which have been run so far this summer:
Engineering Tomorrow Camp – Donegal
Students discovered core engineering principles through hands-on, applied learning. Building and testing their own robotic systems, students developed problem-solving, design thinking and teamwork skills, culminating in a Football Robotics competition where teams put their engineering solutions into action in a fun, fast-paced challenge environment.
East Galway Tourism Project Camp
Students explored East Galway’s tourism and food heritage through a series of excursions, including a visit to Kylemore Farmhouse Cheese, where they met Teresa Roche, the woman behind the award-winning Kylemore Farmhouse Cheese. Students followed the full production journey — from cows in the field, to robotic milking and technology integration, right through to cheese ageing — gaining valuable insight into agri-tourism, sustainability and innovation.
Pizza-Preneurs Camp – Galway
A camp delivered in collaboration with The Dough Bros, students worked in teams to create original pizza concepts and pitch their ideas to Ronan Greaney, co-owner of Dough Bros in Galway. Through experience-built creativity, collaboration, product development, and entrepreneurial pitching the context of the real-world kitchen environment, skills for life were developed. Awards were presented by special guest Cllr. Alan Cheevers, Galway County Council, recognizing the creativity and commitment shown by students throughout the camp.
YEP – Mayo
Students explored entrepreneurship and innovation through visits to the iHub in Castlebar and inspiring talks from local business leaders. Darren Forde, CEO and Founder of Eco Powered Cabinets, shared his entrepreneurial journey and healthcare innovations, while students gained valuable insight into business development, leadership and enterprise in the West of Ireland.
These HEA-funded Summer Camps allow students to develop future-ready skills by engaging directly with industry applying their learning in creative, real-world contexts and getting a sense of the supportive ecosystem we have in place at ATU for entrepreneurial minds.
