The Yellow Belt in Lean Construction is designed to equip frontline construction professionals with the knowledge and skills to support continuous process and workplace improvement. Participants are introduced to core Lean principles and practical tools, including the Last Planner System, visual management techniques, and approaches to identifying and eliminating waste.
The programme emphasises applied learning, enabling participants to monitor performance effectively and utilise structured problem-solving and root-cause analysis methods within real project environments.

Lean Construction – Yellow BeltThe Lean in Construction Yellow Belt provides students designed to develop frontline practitioners who can actively support process and workplace improvements in construction projects. Participants learn to apply core Lean concepts and tools, including an overview Last Planner System, visual management, and methods for identifying and reducing waste. Students should allow 5.5 hours per week for a 1 hour online lecture, 1 hour tutorial and self-directed study.

Upon successful completion there are a range of progression options open to graduates of this programme including advanced entry to ATU’s Green Belt in Lean Construction and then to ATU’s suite of construction related programmes at levels 7, 8 and 9.

A pass level 5 programme (Leaving Cert).
OR
Five different subjects at GCSE grade C or better to include English/Irish and Maths with a minimum of 160 points.
OR
Equivalent qualifications and scores from other countries which will be assessed and scored by the university.
Mature Applicants:
Applications from mature applicants (aged 23 on or before 1st January of the course commencement year) are welcomed by ATU. A quota of places is reserved for mature applicants.
These applicants do not have to meet the Leaving Certificate entry requirements and are considered on an individual basis (previous education, work experience, and demonstration of ability and competence to undertake the programme).
GRASP is a PEACEPLUS-funded cross-border initiative offering flexible, industry-focused learning opportunities.
Applicants must:
- Be 16 years of age or older
- Live in, or work for an employer based in, Northern Ireland or border counties: Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan or Louth.
