Courses
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what led you to choosing your course?
Hi, I’m Kara and I’m from Belleek, Co. Fermanagh. I went to primary school in Belleek, in the North of Ireland. Irish is not taught in primary schools in the North of Ireland. I decided at the age of 10 that teaching was a career I might like to pursue, and as a result, I moved to a school in the Republic of Ireland so I could learn Irish, as there are more teaching jobs in the Republic of Ireland and Irish is mandatory for that career.
What are your favourite modules on the course?
I like the management modules on my course. It’s really interesting to delve deeper into the way employees and co-workers operate and what motivates them. I also like the Irish grammar modules, as I think they are so important.
If you were speaking with a first-year student about to start your course, what advice would you give them?
Like all university courses, everyone is in the course for the first time. Never be put off by thinking everyone else will be better than you or that you’re not good enough. Give it a try and you might surprise yourself.
Make friends and don’t be shy about getting to know the people on your course. You’ll spend the next three years with them, so why not make some lifelong friends and make the university experience more enjoyable?
What are your plans after ATU and what long-term goals are you aiming for?
I’m not sure where the future will take me yet… but I’m excited to find out.
