Three ATU students awarded prestigious Government of Ireland International Education scholarships
Atlantic Technological University (ATU) is celebrating the success of three of its international students who have each been awarded a Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship (GOI-IES) for the 2025 academic year.
The scholarship recipients are Nicole Lee Chen Xi from Malaysia, who is pursuing an MSc in Food and Nutritional Product Development at ATU’s Sligo Campus; Kushan Mindika Wijesinghe from Sri Lanka, enrolled in the MSc in Computing in Cybersecurity; and Fernanda Paulina Cadena Melo from Ecuador, studying for an MSc in Computing in Cyberpsychology- both studying at ATU’s Donegal Letterkenny Campus.
Each scholarship provides a €10,000 stipend for one year, along with a full tuition fee waiver from the host higher education institution.
Welcoming the announcement, Dr John Andy Bonar, VP for Research, Equality & External Affairs, said:
ATU is delighted to welcome three outstandingly talented recipients of the prestigious Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship for this academic year. Nicole, Kushan, and Fernanda join more than 3,000 international students currently studying across ATU’s campuses and programmes.
He added that GOI-IES is an exceptionally competitive international scholarship programme that attracts top students from around the world.
“This is a particularly exciting time for ATU as we develop our inaugural Global Engagement Strategy- a key initiative reflecting our commitment to building a diverse, inclusive, and internationally connected academic community. We are thrilled to have Nicole, Kushan, and Fernanda studying with us. We extend a very warm welcome to them and wish them every success in their studies at ATU”, he concluded.
The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship programme supports high-calibre international students pursuing study at NFQ levels 9 or 10 in Ireland. Funded by the Government of Ireland in partnership with Irish higher education institutions and managed by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), the initiative awards 60 scholarships annually for one year of full-time postgraduate study.
