Students take part in the National CreateHER gathering in Galway
Students from Atlantic Technological University (ATU) joined more than 170 participants from higher education institutions across Ireland at the CreateHER National Gathering, hosted by the University of Galway on 17 April 2026, for a day of entrepreneurship, confidence-building and peer connection.
Delivered in partnership with ATU, South East Technological University, Munster Technological University, University of Limerick and Technological University Dublin, and funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), the CreateHER initiative supports female students to develop confidence, resilience and entrepreneurial ambition.
A key highlight of the event was a student panel discussion featuring representatives from each partner institution. Among the panellists was Malaika Arfan, a Civil Engineering student at ATU, who encouraged attendees to “have audacity” by putting themselves forward for opportunities and embracing new challenges.
The programme also included a keynote and interactive session delivered by Norah Casey, who shared insights from her career and highlighted the importance of resilience, adaptability and self-belief. The session encouraged students to reflect on their own ambitions and approach to risk-taking.
Interactive workshops and networking sessions gave students the opportunity to exchange ideas, reflect on personal goals and build connections with peers from across the country.
Speaking after the event, Grace Latham, Student Entrepreneurship Officer at ATU, said:
Events like CreateHER are important in providing supportive environments where female students can build confidence and explore their potential. The opportunity to connect, share experiences and develop new skills has a lasting impact, both personally and professionally.
The CreateHER National Gathering highlights the value of collaborative initiatives in supporting student development, fostering innovation and encouraging greater participation in entrepreneurship across higher education.
