Sligo Engineering Fair returns for a day of exploration and fun
The Sligo Engineering Fair returns for its sixth consecutive year on Sunday, 3 March, at Atlantic Technological University’s Sligo campus. Running from 12 pm to 5 pm, the fair promises a day filled with exploration, innovation, and family-friendly fun.
Organised by Atlantic Technological University (ATU) in collaboration with Engineers Ireland NW, and global healthcare leader Abbott, this year's fair offers a wide range of performances, workshops and demonstrations for all the family to enjoy.
Attendees will be rubbing shoulders with intergalactic celebrity robots such as Star Wars' iconic RTD2 and a menacing Dalek from the renowned television series Doctor Who.
Niall Plunkett, site director of Abbott’s diagnostics business in Sligo, welcomed the return of the fair. “At Abbott we are committed to building the diverse, innovative workforce of tomorrow, and an important part of this work is inspiring the youth of today to become the innovators and inventors that will lead the future of healthcare. Creating enthusiasm and excitement for engineering in our young people is a fantastic way to support this goal. We are delighted to be working with ATU Sligo once again and look forward to welcoming the community to the Sligo Engineering Fair.”
The Engineering Fair at ATU Sligo will also include a wide range of performances, interactive displays workshops and demonstrations for all the family to enjoy.
Head of College and Head of Faculty of Engineering & Design at ATU Sligo, Una Parsons said “we are delighted to bring our annual educational and fun Engineering Fair to ATU Sligo. This event allows us to open our doors to the community and welcome a diverse range of visitors to our campus to highlight to the public the breath and world of Engineering. It allows us to instil Engineering in the minds of the younger generation, our future Engineers by showing them what Engineering is all about in a fun and interactive way”.
Highlights of the packed programme of events will be a mini “Robots War,” Lego workshops with Bricks4Kids. Engineering Discovery Zone - is an area with family friendly activities, enjoy engineering games and more. Additionally, attendees can partake in the Extreme Engineering Interactive Workshop, exploring the intricacies of building from small to large scale, and experience the process of developing a 2D games in the Unity game engine through the Computer Games Development segment.
This year will also see the return of Abbott’s Engineering Room, offering attendees a hands-on experience with engineering experiments and interactive stations to delve into various aspects of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines.
