Fit Féile: GAME ON for Women’s Health Festival comes to Letterkenny
The Department of Nursing and Health Care at Atlantic Technological University (ATU), Donegal Letterkenny Campus, has launched a new women’s health, fitness and wellbeing initiative, Fit Féile: GAME ON for Women’s Health Festival, taking place on 21 March 2026.
This one-day event will bring together ATU, the Health Service Executive (HSE), the Ladies Gaelic Football Association G4M&O (Gaelic for Mothers & Others) programme, and St. Eunan’s LGFA, combining expertise from across the region to champion and support women’s health.
Throughout the day, participants can engage in a broad range of holistic health and wellbeing activities. The programme includes expert-led talks addressing key topics in women’s health, such as menopause, cervical health, breast awareness and mental wellbeing. Attendees can also avail of complimentary health assessments delivered by ATU staff and students, while registered LGFA teams will take part in a dedicated G4M&O blitz.
The initiative is designed to create an inclusive, empowering and enjoyable environment where women feel confident to prioritise their health and participate in physical activity. By encouraging social connection and promoting both physical and mental well-being, the event seeks to deliver a meaningful, and lasting impact for women across the North West.
Dr Louise McBride, Head of Department Nursing and Healthcare at ATU, said:
Fit Féile is about bringing women together in a positive and supportive space where health information, physical activity and community connection come together. By working collaboratively across healthcare, education and sport, we are helping women feel informed, confident and empowered to take charge of their wellbeing.
Elaine Walsh, Lecturer in Nursing at ATU, said:
“This festival creates a welcoming space where women can access trusted health information, connect with others, and feel supported to take small but meaningful steps towards improving their overall wellbeing.”
This collaborative initiative marks the first event of its kind in the North West, uniting key stakeholders from healthcare, higher education and sport with a shared commitment to advancing women’s health and wellbeing in the region.
While team registration has now closed, members of the public are invited to attend on the day to support the teams and enjoy the festival atmosphere.
The Women’s Health and Wellbeing expert talks are open to the public, and those wishing to attend can register here: Fit Féile Registration Form
