ATU signs Articulation Agreements with four ETB partners to expand access to higher education

L-R: David Leahy, Chief Executive, GRETB, Sinead Morgan, Director of Further Education and Training, GRETB, Dr Billy Bennet, Registrar and Chief Academic Officer ATU and Dr Orla Flynn, ATU President.

These articulation agreements provide learners in Further Education (FE) with advanced entry routes from QQI Level 6 awards directly into Year 2 of selected undergraduate degree programmes at ATU. A total of 48 ATU programmes are included in this initiative, allowing successful applicants to gain entry without the need for additional assessment, subject to the availability of places and meeting entry requirements.

Commenting on the announcement, Dr Billy Bennett, Registrar and Chief Academic Officer at ATU said: “Building on established Memoranda of Understanding and collaborative agreements, this initiative reaffirms the shared commitment of ATU and its ETB partners in supporting alternative pathways into higher education. It also complements ongoing efforts to develop tertiary education degrees and access routes that break down barriers faced by non-traditional learners.”

Speaking on behalf of the regional ETB Directors of FET, Sinead Morgan, Director of FET, GRETB, added, “This articulation agreement represents a major milestone in strengthening progression pathways from further to higher education. By enabling learners to complete their Level 6 in further education and progress directly into Year 2 of an ATU degree, we are creating clear, supported and accessible routes that widen participation and open new doors for individuals across the region. It reflects the strong collaboration between our organisations and our shared commitment to enhancing opportunities for learners, supporting community development, and meeting the skills needs of employers and the wider economy.”

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to continuously review and align curriculum offerings, ensuring that opportunities for learners across the region continue to grow. learners who complete the QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Early Learning and Care may progress to year two of the BSc in Inclusive Practice for Special Needs Assistance in ATU’s Donegal Letterkenny Campus or one of the Early Childhood programmes offered across many of ATU’s campuses. Those who complete a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in one of the many Business specialisms available can progress to BBus and BBus (Hons) options in Business, Marketing, Business Information Systems and Entrepreneurship across ATU.
