ATU iHub in partnership with Project Medtech hosts “Coming to America”
The Innovation Hub (ihub) at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Galway in partnership with Project MedTech is hosting a one day-day workshop on Monday 22 September in the ATU iHub, Galway campus, for start-up and established medical device companies on how to navigate entry into the US market.
Designed for emerging and growth-stage companies developing medical devices, diagnostics, wearables, digital health technologies, health IT, and software as a medical device, “Coming to America” is designed to help companies understand and prepare for the realities of bringing their technology to the United States.
Entering the US healthcare market presents significant opportunities for international medtech companies, but successfully navigating the market requires more than a strong product. Companies must understand the US healthcare system, reimbursement environment, regulatory and quality requirements, health system purchasing processes, commercialization considerations, company formation options, and the strategic decisions involved in establishing a US presence.
Coming to America brings these considerations together in one hands-on programme designed to help companies move from understanding the U.S. market to developing a practical plan for entering it.
Lindsey Dinneen, Director of Marketing & Engagement at Project Medtech, says: “Expanding into the United States can be an incredible opportunity for a growing medtech company, but the path is complex. Our goal is to make that path more approachable and actionable by bringing together the people and expertise companies need to make informed decisions about their US market strategy.”
The afternoon will shift from education to action through 1:1 meetings and networking with experienced US-based experts across regulatory, reimbursement, market strategy, company formation, and other areas critical to successful market entry.
These individualized conversations are designed to help attendees address questions specific to their technology, company stage, and US market goals. Companies may use the sessions to pressure-test a market entry strategy, explore FDA pathways, refine commercialization plans, identify potential US locations and partners, or determine the next steps required to establish a foundation for growth.
For many companies, the difference isn’t simply understanding what needs to be done. It’s knowing what to do next,” said Dinneen. “The 1:1 meetings are intended to bridge that gap by giving founders and teams the opportunity to have focused conversations about their specific challenges and opportunities.” adds Ms Dinneen.
Turlough Rafferty, Manager of the ATU Galway iHub, says:
“For medtech companies, the US represents an enormous market opportunity, but entering that market successfully requires careful planning and an understanding of how regulation, reimbursement, procurement and commercialisation come together. At ATU’s incubation centres, we want to help our companies move beyond simply developing great technologies and give them access to the expertise, networks and practical supports they need to scale internationally.
This workshop is a great example of bringing that expertise directly to companies and helping them identify the steps they need to take to turn their US ambitions into a realistic market-entry strategy.”
Current sponsors include Compliance Solutions Life Sciences, Hoste Consulting, Red Star Contract Manufacturing, and ATU iHub Galway, with additional sponsors to be announced.
