Course Overview
Even though we have a strong understanding that regular activity, nourishing food, and healthy habits can improve our wellbeing, many people still face challenges in making these changes stick. Many individuals know what to do, but struggle with the how. This programme is designed to bridge that gap by equipping professionals with the practical skills and behaviour‑change strategies needed to help clients make sustainable improvements to their health and wellbeing.
What is Health and Wellness Coaching?
Health coaching is an evidence-informed, person‑centred approach to supporting individuals in identifying, choosing, and achieving meaningful health goals. Health coaching empowers people to take an active role in their own wellbeing and is based on established behaviour‑change theories such as including Motivational Interviewing, the Transtheoretical Model of Change, and Positive Psychology approaches . Through structured goal setting, collaborative planning, and ongoing support, health coaches help individuals build confidence, strengthen motivation, improve wellbeing and sustain long-term lifestyle change.
About This Programme
This academically accredited programme is designed for practitioners seeking to deepen their understanding of behaviour change and develop practical coaching skills. The programme emphasises empowerment, partnership, and person-centred coaching which is aligned with national health policy priorities.
Empowerment is a core theme of Healthy Ireland (Department of Health, 2013) and an essential component of the Sláintecare (2017) reform agenda. This programme directly supports these national goals by developing professionals who can effectively empower individuals and communities to engage in their own health and wellness. The programme is suitable for healthcare practitioners, allied health professionals, and others working in health, wellbeing, lifestyle, or community settings who wish to integrate evidence-based health coaching skills into their practice.
