Course Overview
This programme is appropriate for learners with no prior knowledge of Spanish who wish to gain the basic skills and insights necessary to communicate in Spanish within a professional context. Learning will be based around the context of the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries.
Classes take place online every Tuesday and Thursday. Each class is recorded so you can catch up anytime. There will be one on-campus assessment, and your Programme Chair will share the details at the start of the course. You’ll also have the chance to join an optional trip, usually in the last week of the semester.

On successful completion of this programme students can apply for progression to the Certificate in Spanish for the Workplace 2.

Entry Requirements
To join this course, you’ll need a Grade O6/H7 or better in five Leaving Certificate subjects including English or Irish and Mathematics with a minimum of 160 points. English or Irish with a minimum grade of O6/H7 or better meets the English or Irish entry requirement. Mathematics with a minimum grade of O6/H7 or F2 or better meets the minimum mathematical entry requirement.
Mature candidates (23 years of age or older by 1st January in the proposed year of entry) are exempted from the standard minimum academic entry requirements. Mature students will be assessed on the basis of a personal statement and may be invited to interview.
