ATU students from our Human Nutrition and Food Science honours degree programmes have been highly successful in securing entry into Dietetics Master’s programmes in Ireland or abroad.

Our students have been very successful in gaining entry to Dietetics Masters from our honours degree. For example, several graduates have studied and completed the MSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics in the University of Limerick. Of course, students have also been successful in gaining places on Dietetics Masters in other universities across Ireland and the UK. Our Level 8 degree is also accredited by the Association for Nutrition. Please note that Level 7 graduates can complete a one year add-on to obtain their honours degree in Human Nutrition.

My interest in nutrition, food and human anatomy came from studying Home Economics and Biology in secondary school. During my time studying Human Nutrition at ATU Sligo, I had the opportunity to gain experience working in the food industry by completing a nine-month internship with Abbott Nutrition.

What I love most about Human Nutrition in ATU Sligo, is that it covers all areas of nutrition – from food composition to how the human body works and how we think, as human nutrition is not just about food. You learn a lot about the significance of health and I love applying this to my own life! The lecturers are experts in this area.

Niamh O’Callaghan

I chose my undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition as I was interested in nutrition which stemmed from my love of sport. Nutrition impacts our strength, training, performance and recovery. Additionally, in secondary school I really enjoyed Science subjects such as biology, chemistry and home economics, so I felt Human Nutrition was the right course for me.
