ATU is delighted to invite applications for two bursaries funded through the Sunflower Foundation, supporting students entering the MSc in Outdoor Education, Sustainability and Wellbeing starting in September 2026. These bursaries aim to remove barriers to access and to empower learners who are committed to strengthening community resilience, enhancing well-being, and contributing to a sustainable future through nature-based practice.

The MSc in Outdoor Education, Sustainability and Well-being is the only programme of its kind in Ireland, offering a flexible blended structure suited to educators, community practitioners, outdoor leaders, health and wellbeing professionals, and those working with nature to support individuals and communities.

Sunflower Scholar Details

Two successful applicants will be awarded €7000 each towards the payment of programme fees (Year 1 and 2). Applicants need to meet the academic eligibility requirements to MSc in Outdoor education, Sustainability and Well-being and to confirm their commitment to complete the 2-year part-time programme. Applicants must also confirm they are not in receipt of any other funding for the programme.

Ideal candidates will:

· Be passionate about contributing to community resilience and sustainability futures

· Demonstrate engagement with sustainability or nature-based initiatives

· Bring diverse experience, perspective, or background to the learning environment

1. A short personal statement (500–700 words) outlining:

Your interest in outdoor education, sustainability, and/or wellbeing, your community or organisational context and your engagement with sustainability or nature-based initiatives

2. Complete brief supporting questions in the areas of experience, motivation and impact.

This Masters is a part-time course with a duration of 2 years. It is blended offering a blend of online and on-campus learning and is led from our Mayo campus.
