Course Overview
On completion of this four-year apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified refrigeration and air conditioning craftsperson, with a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
You may then choose to work as a self-employed refrigeration and air conditioning craftsperson in private dwellings, or as a contractor in industrial and commercial buildings.
Many apprentices use their qualification as a platform to launch careers such as engineers, managers, owners of businesses, teachers and instructors amongst others.
What does a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning craftsperson do?
Working as a refrigeration and air conditioning craftsperson, you will be required to install, maintain and repair all types of refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment and systems.
A refrigeration and air conditioning craftsperson can work in industries such as domestic, marine, commercial and industrial. You will be required to install, maintain and repair items such as household, hospital, hotel and shop refrigerators, display cabinets, deep freezers, cooling plants, cold rooms and refrigerated transport.
What Skills will I learn?
- By the end of your training, you will be able to:
- Install, service and maintain a broad range of high, medium and low temperature refrigeration equipment
- Install, service and maintain air conditioning systems and associated parts
- Knowledge of welding, plumbing and electrical work
- Inspect and test systems and diagnose faults
- Interpret drawings and diagrams
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs
- Use tools or machinery to fabricate industrial components.
