Student develops AI tool to transform accessible learning
An Atlantic Technological University (ATU) student has received national recognition for developing an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) solution designed to make learning more accessible for neurodivergent and multilingual students.
Emanuel Covasa, an AI engineer and student at ATU, won the AIB Student Impact Award 2026 in the Small Budget Project of the Year category for NeuroBridgeEDU, an application that records lectures in real time, transcribes content locally, and generates personalised study summaries tailored to individual learning needs.
Designed with accessibility at its core, NeuroBridgeEDU can adapt content to suit different users, providing concise bullet-point summaries, multilingual outputs and alternative formats that support students with dyslexia, ADHD and other learning differences.
Emanuel said the idea grew from his own experience as a neurodivergent learner.
NeuroBridgeEDU started from a personal frustration. As someone with dyslexia and AuDHD, I found that existing productivity tools did not work the way my brain works. I wanted to create something that could make information more accessible and help people engage with learning in a way that suits them best.
What began as a solution for students has evolved into a broader platform with potential applications across education, training and workplace environments. The system allows institutions to create personalised summaries from a single transcription while maintaining privacy through local processing and on-premises deployment.
The project used less than €800 worth of tools and resources, demonstrating how innovation and impact can be achieved without significant financial investment.
Commenting on the award, Emanuel said:
Winning the AIB Small Budget Project of the Year Award demonstrates that innovation is not always about having bigger budgets. Sometimes it is about understanding a problem deeply and creating a solution that can genuinely make a difference.
The AIB Student Impact Awards recognise students who are creating positive change through innovation, leadership and entrepreneurship. Emanuel’s success highlights the talent, creativity and problem-solving ability of ATU students and the University’s commitment to fostering innovation with real-world impact.
