Guaranteed tertiary progression pathway announced for Level 5 food science learners to ATU St Angelas degree programme

Under the pathway, eligible Level 5 Food Science learners who meet specified entry criteria will be guaranteed entry to year 1 of the honours degree programme at St Angelas.

This exciting new degree pathway commences in further education in Sligo/Leitrim, with a guaranteed path to Level 8 (Honours) degree completion at ATU St Angelas, with support under the National Tertiary Office. The initiative strengthens collaboration between further and higher education and offers learners a seamless academic progression opportunity.

Offering a career in one of the most dynamic, fast-paced and innovative sectors of the economy, the BSc (Hons) in Nutrition, Food and Business Management is a unique multidisciplinary programme. During this course, students discover the science and strategy behind the food industry as they combine modules in food product development and processing, marketing and entrepreneurship, nutrition and biochemistry with a full semester-long block of work placement in a food producing company in Ireland or abroad building commercial expertise, food business experience and leadership skills. The programme is well aligned with industry needs and national priorities around food sustainability and enterprise development.

It recognises the strong academic foundation developed through Food Science programmes and ensures that learners can continue their studies in a structured and supported way.

From the student perspective, the pathway removes uncertainty around University progression options and reinforces the value of further education as a gateway to degree level study.
