Global recognition for ATU researcher Dr Ian O’Connor
Dr Ian O'Connor, Head of Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, is one of just 27 Irish scientists named to Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researchers 2025 list, recognising his significant impact on scientific research worldwide. This is the second time Dr O’Connor has received this honour, having previously been included in the list in 2022.
This global recognition highlights researchers whose work ranks in the top 1% by citations for their field and publication year, demonstrating significant and broad influence in advancing scientific knowledge. The list is compiled through rigorous analysis of citation data from the Web of Science Core Collection, combined with a qualitative review to ensure research integrity and impact.
Dr O’Connor’s research focuses on marine and freshwater ecology, including organism responses to environmental stressors such as disease and pollution. His leadership at ATU and contributions to conservation and ecological monitoring have positioned him among the world’s most influential scientists.
He said:
