ATU welcomes President and Co-Chair of Irelands Guidance Counsellor Networks
On Monday 10th of November, ATU hosted a Guidance Counsellor event to mark the commencement of the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS) programme on the CAO. The programme went live on the CAO on the 5th of November.
Catriona Rodgers, President of the Institute of Guidance Counsellor (IGC) and Stephanie Murphy, Co-Chair of the Northern Ireland Schools and Careers Advisors Association (NISCA) attended this event – which is significant as this meant that ATU welcomed the two leaders of the Guidance Counsellors networks from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland – a first-time for the university.
Members of the Donegal IGC branch attended the event to find out more about the new programme, explore details on the entry requirements and to hear more about the future plans for the university.
Dr. Billy Bennett, Registrar and Chief Academic Officer at the university provided an overview of ATU and an update on ATU’s continued growth in the CAO market, with Dr. Joanne Gallagher, newly appointed of Dean of the Faculty of Science and Health at the university providing insight into the origins, development and plans for the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery programme at the university.
Prof. Patrick Pollock provided an overview of the programme, with Dr. Christina Forbes and Dr. John Donlon ATU Lecturers in Veterinary Medicine providing insights in the special curriculum and also, the Casper test entry requirements.
The event concluded with an address from Jacinta Ryan, Head of Admissions on the subject entry requirements and details on the work placement requirements.
The Guidance Counsellor network commended the university’s work to develop the programme and welcomed the addition of the programme to the CAO.
