Atlantic Technological University (ATU) is pleased to announce a partnership with Resolution Medical and LifeTec Group to bring enhanced expertise and capabilities in a range of device development and BioSimulation Technologies to Galway. This complements the existing Medical Imaging, Anatomical Modelling and Physiological Replication expertise in the Enterprise Ireland funded Medical & Engineering Technology (MET) Gateway at ATU and the Medical Imaging Suite located in the Innovation Hub (iHub), Galway

This collaboration has led to a very successful Beating Heart Demo implementation over a number of days in the Medical Imaging Suite at the iHub for Research Staff, Start-Ups and Multinationals to explore and discuss how ex-vivo BioSimulation using Cardiac, Vascular, Liver and Lung Models can support medical device design and development in the West Region.

George McCourt, Head of Innovation & Enterprise at ATU: “This collaboration between ATU and Resolution Medical is very significant for the Region as it increases the capability, expertise and innovation of our Start-up community, and offers a unique service to the Medtech sector”.

Dr Jamie Meehan, MET Technology Gateway Manager at ATU: “The success of the recent Cardiac BioSimulator and Beating Heart Demo Days at ATU iHub, Galway provided compelling evidence of the powerful international collaboration between Resolution Medical, ATU iHub and the Medical and Engineering Technologies (MET) Gateway. MET is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Northern & Western Regional Programme 2021-27 to deliver cutting-edge innovative solutions for the close-to-market needs of Irish-based Startups, SMEs, and Multinationals”.

Marco Stijnen, director BioSim Business Development & Strategy at Resolution Medical’s LifeTec Group “We are very excited about initiating this collaboration with the ATU iHub facility and its amazing team, focused on supporting the local medical device community. We will bring both expertise in making device and delivery system prototypes – with the possibility to expand to formal development and manufacturing when successful – as well as a variety of ex-vivo BioSimulation models and more than 20 years of experience in how to get the best out of these models for early device assessments as well as clinical training.”

Dr Orla Flynn, President of Atlantic Technological University, signalled the significance of this collaboration for the MedTech sector saying: “We are excited with this international collaboration between ATU, Resolution Medical & LifeTec Group to bring enhanced BioSimulation expertise and facilities to the West Region. This builds upon the existing ATU MedTech facilities and capabilities of our Research Staff, Technology Gateways and Innovation

Hubs and we look forward to the future synergies of this International Partnership.”
