Course Overview
The Certificate in Science in Quality Management provides a strong foundation in Quality Management philosophies and their application, Quality Management systems and general management principles in manufacturing and service organisations.
This Certificate in Quality, along with (a) the Certificate in Quality & Regulatory Affairs and (b) Certificate in Quality for Industry – Statistics & Management, make up the Bachelor of Science (Ordinary) Degree in Quality for Industry.

Note: Where assessment on the programme involves examinations, these are held on campus or at another exam venue in the Republic of Ireland. There are typically two exam periods: January and May. Times scheduled for examinations (face to face / online exams ) are in GMT.

Entry Requirements
Entry requirements:
To qualify for entry to the minor award, applicants are required to have a pass in any QQI FET Major award at Level 5 or 6 or alternatively applicants meeting the minimum Leaving Certificate entry requirement of Grade O6/H7 or better in five Leaving Certificate subjects including Mathematics and English or Irish with a minimum of 160 points or equivalent are eligible for entry.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) can be used as a means to gain entry to the programme or gain exemptions. For more information on the RPL process, please visit https://www.myexperience.ie
It is a prerequisite, that you have passed Quality Management 1 before you can start Quality Management 2, Six Sigma or the Project modules.
If you wish to obtain the Bachelor of Science (Level 7) in Quality for Industry at ATU you need to have the following:
- 60 credits at Level 7 (Cert in Quality and Regulatory Affairs, Cert in Quality Statistics and Management and Cert in Quality Management) plus
- 120 credits at Level 6 in a suitable/specified discipline (or a successful RPL application).
Careers
The Certificate in Science in Quality Management helps those in operator roles to move into Quality roles such as in inspection and quality assurance.
The Bachelor of Science in Quality for Industry helps people obtain promotion to Line Leader/ Supervisor roles.
