Science Fair ATU Sligo

Sligo Science Festival

The Sligo Science Festival is a 10 day event that takes place during Science Week. The festival highlights STEM engagement throughout the week by delivering a Science Fair Day at ATU Sligo, hosting science shows, workshops, demonstrations and displays, together with a comprehensive programme of talks, road shows, exhibitions and debates for all ages and backgrounds during science week. We will ensure the festival is accessible to all, is divisive and inclusive by creating a varying programme of events with science at all levels from novice to academic.

The festival will take place in varying locations and setting, from village halls, theatres, 3rd level institutes, public buildings, libraries, pubs and adults only venues. The festival will have a centre in Sligo town but will have events in Donegal as well as in rural Sligo. Events will be free to all to attend and be accessible. In terms of novel and varied approaches, we aim to expand our delivery to the community through our existing regional roadshows, the Fair Day programmes, and unexpected venues, akin last year where we used Sligo Abbey and the Sligo Courthouse and the main river for science kayaking tours. For instance we hope to use the Sligo County Council Nuclear fallout bunker for one of the workshops.

Galway Science and Technology Festival

ATU will be participating in the annual Galway Science and Technology Festival.  This is the 28th year of the festival and ATU (formerly GMIT) are founder members.  The festival is a unique collaboration involving universities and locally-based companies to promote STEM to schools and the general community in Galway.  The festival runs for two week from 9th to 22nd November.
