The 5G-SHARE project is a European initiative delivering next-generation 5G-powered education and research infrastructure across Ireland, Czech Republic, Romania, and Italy. By deploying advanced 5G Standalone Mobile Private Networks (MPNs), the project enables immersive learning, real-time collaboration, and cutting-edge innovation in XR, AI, IoT, and cybersecurity.

About the Project 

The 5G-SHARE project represents a transformative step in digital education and research, leveraging 5G and edge computing to create interconnected, high-performance academic environments across Europe.  

By deploying private 5G networks at leading universities and interconnecting them across borders, the project enables:

Use Cases 

The project delivers 7 large-scale pilot use cases, each demonstrating real-world applications of 5G in education, research, and industry. 

All use cases are validated through large-scale pilots across partner universities.  

UC1 – Hybrid XR Learning 

An immersive learning platform using XR technologies for interactive, real-time education across multiple universities. 

UC2 – XR 5G Fab Labs 

Virtual laboratories where students can design, assemble, and test construction components in immersive environments. 

UC3 – 3D Volumetric Video Streaming 

High-resolution 3D content streaming powered by AI and 5G for training, sports analysis, and simulation. 

UC4 – 5G-Enabled AR for Critical Operations 

Augmented reality tools for real-time industrial operations, maintenance, and training. 

UC5 – Post-Quantum Cybersecurity in 5G 

Implementation of quantum-resistant encryption to secure future digital infrastructure. 

UC6 – 5G Sensing Networks 

Real-time sensing systems using AI and 5G for smart cities, spectrum monitoring, and environmental analysis. 

UC7 – AI-Augmented Academic Networks 

High-speed 5G connectivity enabling cross-university collaboration, virtual labs, and shared research environments.
