The scenic ATU campus locations across the west and northwest of Ireland, help give ATU students an unforgettable student life experience. The region is known for its friendly people, vibrant towns and cities, and stunning natural beauty.
Multiple student accommodation options are available at our ATU campus locations, including purpose-built student villages, private rental options and digs. While the ATU region is one of the most cost-effective locations for student accommodation, there is an increasing demand for supply.
Our Students’ Union teams are on hand to help students find their perfect home away from home. If you are currently looking for accommodation in one of our ATU locations or would like to advertise accommodation options to our students, please visit the links below.
Please note that ATU and ATU Students’ Unions do not own or manage any accommodation on any campus. Private operators provide all student accommodation. The university is not responsible for any agreements reached between tenants and landlords, including tenancy dates, rules, costs, or any other matters related to the accommodation.

Accommodation FAQs
Accommodation availability by campus
Galway City
- No on-campus accommodation. Student villages open bookings in Jan/Feb.

- Options: Rooms, apartments, digs (€450–€650/month).
Mayo
- No on-campus accommodation. Hawthorn Village prioritizes students where possible.
- Listings mostly rooms in private homes.
- Available year-round.
- Digs: Typically range between €130-150/week.
Mountbellew
- No on-campus accommodation.
- Shared houses, digs.
- Listings released in August.
Connemara
- Contact campus directly (091 742650) for options.
Letterkenny & Killybegs
- No on-campus accommodation.
- Closest option: Ballyraine Apartments.
- Digs, apartments, house shares.
- Start searching in late July/early August.
Sligo
- No on-campus accommodation, but multiple options:
- Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA)
- Self-Catering Accommodation
- Digs/Lodging
- PBSA options include Clarion Village, Gateway Apartments, The Grove, Yeats Village, Unirooms, etc. (€4500–€6500/year). PBSA options include LILA.
- For Digs (5-day lets), prices range from €70 (twin room) to €125 (ensuite room).
- For 7-day lets, it’s €100 for a twin and €155 for an ensuite

When to start looking
- Galway: Jan/Feb for student villages; late June for private landlords.
- Mayo: Year-round.

Transport access
- Galway: Buses 409, 401, 404, 405 (10–30 min).
- Letterkenny: Bus 963.
- Killybegs: Shore Road stop (6-min walk).
- Sligo: Buses S2 (30 mins -hourly) and S1.
- Other campuses: Use Google Maps.
Before signing a lease
- View the Property: Never commit without seeing it.
- Meet the Landlord: Understand expectations.
- Clarify Rent & Inclusions: Meals, utilities, holiday rent.
