Sanctuary Scholarship
The Sanctuary Scholarship is a competitive process and is open to those who are in the International Protection System living in Ireland who are not eligible for state supports and are progressing to undergraduate higher education for the first time.
There are two types of scholarship: Full Scholarship and Fee only scholarship.
Full Scholarship covers:
- All fees (Student Contribution, Tuition Fees and Materials Fees)
- Cost of maintenance to the value of the Full Adjacent top up grant
- A mentor to support and guide successful applicants throughout their time at ATU.
Fee only scholarship covers:
- All fees (Student Contribution, Tuition Fees and Materials Fees)
- A mentor to support and guide successful applicants throughout their time at ATU.
Eligibility to apply
To apply applicants must satisfy all of the following conditions:
- Must be in the International Protection System, living in Ireland (except at deportation stage)
- You must not be eligible for state support for higher education. *
- Have applied for a programme at ATU via CAO**
- Be an entrant into higher education in Ireland for the first time
Opening and Closing Date of Applications
The application form will go live on 9th March 2026, closing date 19th June 2026.

* All applicants are required to make an application to SUSI. To be eligible for the Sanctuary Scholarship, applicants will be required to provide documentation outlining that their application for SUSI has been unsuccessful. Further information can be found on www.susi.ie
**CAO deadline for late applications is 1st May 2026. If you have not yet applied, please do so as it is essential for fulfilling the eligibility criteria to apply for this scholarship www.cao.ie.
