Course Overview
With an increased emphasis on teaching computing in schools, there is increasing demand for teachers to introduce technology and coding as part of the curriculum. This 10 credit special purpose level-8 award is designed to assist teachers in developing their underpinning knowledge of computer systems are architecture; core areas of any computing curriculum.
The module will introduce network technologies and standards required to build data networks. Specifically the objectives of the course are to:
Describe the operations that make up the fundamental workings of the computer.
Recognise and describe the diverse components of the computer system by their basic function, internal implementation, inputs and outputs, and their relationship to each other.
Locate and detail the roles of the CPU and main memory in the context of the overall system and the execution of programs.
Explain the role of the main components of an Operating System.
Describe file, memory, process and input-output management techniques.
Explain the services and protocols required for networking and cloud systems.

Examination and Assessment
