Dudley Practice Area
The Dudley Practice Area (DPA) is a Clinical Skills Simulation Learning Environment in the School of Nursing, Health Sciences and Disability Studies at ATU St Angelas. The DPA can be found on the ground floor of the Áras Michael building at ATU St Angelas. The Simulated learning facility is designed and equipped for teaching on the General Nursing Bachelor of Science (Honours), Intellectual Disability Nursing Bachelor of Science (Honours) and the Bachelor of Science Nursing/ Midwifery International program. The Simulated Learning Environment enables learners to apply their theory and skills and mirror their professional practice in a safe friendly learning environment, where teaching, feedback, advice, debriefing and support will scaffold individual learning. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a set of principles embedded in the DPA teaching to improve the learning experience of all learners..
Clinical Skills Support Service.
- In addition to timetable teaching learners who wish to build on their skills, enhance their learning and confidence can avail of extra time in the DPA. The support and extra practice time is available to all learners on the undergraduate program. This extra time and support can be used to support clinical skills development prior to clinical placement and learners also use it to help prepare for their OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Exams).
- The support service can be booked for practice sessions through the online booking system available on Moodle and the assistance of the Clinical skills Nurse is always available to all learners, during their extra time in the DPA.
The DPA comprises of:
- Two, fully equipped five-bedded wards
- One fully equipped four-bedded ward
- 1 Fully equipped community setting, with kitchen, lounge area, 4 bedrooms, a wet room and sensory area.
- A variety of manikins are used for simulated scenario participation/management and skills training
- A Fully equipped nursing station
- Clean utility room with hand wash assessment facility
- Storeroom with rolling stock
- Task training equipment and teaching aids
- Sluice room
Audio Visual Resources
- 2 integrated overhead video cameras located in lab 1&2 facilitate the remote video recording of clinical skills for teaching, assessment and learning.
- Learners can also book and use the video facility which enables them to capture their own performance and self-asses their clinical skills development against OSCE assessment criteria and clinical skills net, evidenced based learning platform.
- All learners will have access to a wide range of pre-recorded skills teaching videos on the clinical skills modules to support their learning full access to their Moodle learning platform and full access to the Clinical Skills net.
